Stay at this beautiful historic villa on the outskirts of Rome (only 8km from centre). The villa has a rich history dating back to the 1st Century AD, Roman remains in the garden being recorded in the archives at the National Museum of Antiquity. Nearest international airport is Rome (FCO).
Marina Wallace will teach three sessions of yoga daily.
Start the day with meditation and a gentle yoga session before breakfast. After breakfast there's time to rest, walk, swim, or sunbathe.
Late morning there'll be an invigorating yoga session prior to lunch.
Before the evening meal, there will be a late afternoon session preceded by a Satsang session – a guided dialogue about the most important things in life as reflected through yoga philosophy.
Enjoy the pool, reminiscent of ancient Roman baths. Other amenities include table tennis, a badminton court in the grounds and nearby tennis courts.
Sunday is usually excursion day, when the city is free of traffic. The excursion can be tailored to any particular interests to be discussed with Marina, but typically can include the Forum, the old Jewish Quarter or a museum. Lunch will be in a restaurant on Isola Tiberina, an island in the Tiber. In the spring and autumn, an additional excursion could be to the beautiful garden of Villa d’Este, just outside Rome.
Prices for 5-night retreats: 16-19 February – £465 pp pwk in twin/double shared room, or £685 single room.

The villa’s lofty ceilings, elegant furnishings and beautiful gardens combine grandeur and spacious luxury with a reassuringly homely feel. The travertine marble floors and hand painted ceramic tiles ensure coolness in summer, and out of season seven fireplaces, situated throughout the house, will keep you cosy.
There are eight elegantly decorated bedrooms, which can accommodate up to a maximum of sixteen people in twins, doubles, or triple-bed rooms. Two of the rooms are en-suite, the others share bathrooms with a maximum of three guests per bathroom.
A spacious yoga room with a vaulted ceiling overlooks the gardens, and is fully equipped.
The upper garden includes an area with archaeological remains. The lower garden, with a lawn, a patio and a porch, is ideal for strolling in shaded areas or relaxing in the sun.
Food: Vegetarian meals are prepared from locally sourced food.
Generally adults only, but sometimes the teacher is happy to have children stay. Please enquire.

"The villa lives up to and exceeds all expectations for comfort, service, aesthetics and dreams. A great supportive ambience for the yoga retreat, plenty of space to find a quiet nook, should you wish, fresh and healthy food and a great ambience. For all those looking for something extraordinary." Kristina Bramstorp
“The house itself is stunning – a historic cardinal’s villa set in extensive grounds, beautiful gardens and complete with ancient Roman ruins. It has evidently been carefully restored recently and has a wonderful feel to it. There’s a combination of grandeur with high ceilings, fine furnishings, paintings and wall hangings, and yet a reassuringly homely feel with attention to detail throughout.
For example, when we arrived, the beds had been made up and the towels laid out with sprigs of fresh lavender. The bedrooms and bathrooms are all well equipped and the rooms are all spacious. There are plenty of power sockets and you can access the internet in most of the rooms and in parts of the garden. There is also a wonderful sense of light throughout the house, and the tall pines, palm trees and orange trees that surround the house mean that you can hardly believe that you are so close to the city centre." “Loved the whole experience. The villa’s owner Marina and her staff were amazing and I felt like I was staying with friends. The villa itself was lovely and had so much character. The accommodation was clean and fresh and the bed super comfortable. The food was delicious, fresh and authentic. I would definitely recommend this villa and I look forward to returning one day soon.” Karen Brown
“This historic property is a perfect place to stay, one that exceeded all our expectations! This residence is beautiful, convenient, comfortable, spacious, and lush – and offers a very cool combination of ancient authenticity and modern amenity. It allowed us not just to visit Rome (and check off the boxes, although we did!), but really embrace the city by investigating insider-track places, thanks to the affable, energetic, insightful and organised owner, Marina. Her many outstanding suggestions to us regarding optimal sites, restaurants, and timing and tips were enormously helpful. We developed an itinerary, and she and her excellent local assistant, Stefania, vetted it to make sure we nailed the right combination of touring pace and time.
And, importantly, we RELAXED, spending a few amazing evenings together at the Villa, just hanging out and enjoying its gorgeous space and one another. For anyone who appreciates an authentic and historic ambiance, look no further. You will experience Rome as an Emperor yourself, but with better linens and modern appliances! While the Villa is, indeed, magical, what made this visit sing was the incredibly helpful, resourceful, detail-oriented, and dedicated (but not intrusive) staff.
In addition to all the advice and on-call help, they arranged all the transportation. Stefania was instantly reachable and she and the wonderful local caretaker, Francesco, were incredibly helpful. Knowing that our time in Rome was short, they cared and wanted each day (whether it was central Rome, the Colosseum, the Vatican, or Herculaneum) to go smoothly for us. Marina and her staff, particularly Stefania, were there for us every step of the way, from helping us with a forgotten passport and delivering (after another long touring day) the most incredible, homemade minestrone soup we have ever had.” Denise Clinton
