Pliates was developed in the early 20th century by Joseph Pilates. Pilates exercises teach awareness of the breath and the alignment of the spine, and strengthen the deep torso muscles. Pilates helps to develop body awareness, improving and changing the body's postural and alignment habits and increasing flexibility and ease of movement.
